In order to refine the weight estimate for a match stick rocket, we purchased a case of paper matchsticks, and a brand new roll of aluminum foil. The aluminum foil roll is 75' long by 1' wide and weighed 316.1 grams on our scale. There are 30.48 cm in a foot, and so the roll contains 69,677.28 cm^2 of foil. This translates into ~4.54 milligrams per square centimeter. We tried making rockets that used 1, 2, 3, and 4 cm^2 of foil.
A book of paper matches, "Springfield Quality Foods" was the brand, contains 20 matches. Weighing just the matches (20) gives a weight of 1.8 grams, or about 90 milligrams per match. So depending on how much foil is used, our rockets will weigh 95 to 110 mg.
1 cm^2 of foil may not be enough, and 4 cm^2 of foil may be too much. After experimenting with about 20 match stick rockets, it was hard to tell. None of these rockets
